The Foundation partners with the District and New Trier faculty to identify special initiatives that can benefit the students in multiple ways and have the potential to engage the larger community.

We are humbled to share with you a new project to support Special Education at New Trier. In the summer of 2020 we will begin construction on a greenhouse. It will be a memorial to Sofi Troglia who, as many of you know, passed away after a medical emergency.

This 300-square-foot greenhouse, to be located on the south green roof of the Winnetka campus, will be fully accessible for students of all abilities and aids when needed. It will be a place where students can develop social skills, advocate for themselves, and grow beyond the classroom. The Special Education department is committed to providing a supportive environment in which students can develop academic, social, emotional, vocational, and life skills.

The estimated cost of the project is $300,000. The Foundation Board approved a $100,000 commitment. Some student groups and athletic teams have already committed to fundraising for the cause.
