This Endowed Fund is named in honor of Jim Marran, New Trier High School Social Studies faculty member and Department Chair from 1956-1993; and member of the New Trier Educational Foundation Board from 2005-2014. This endowed fund will provide financial support for professional development opportunities that are unique and innovative, further build a connection between New Trier and other schools, and advance outreach, equity, and and community connections. This may include faculty grants for research, visiting teachers or experts, or partnerships with other districts.
Jim Marran joined the New Trier Educational Foundation Board in 2005 and for nine years served as a Board member, chairman of the grant committee, chairman of strategic planning, and Foundation Board chair. Following the completion of his Board term in 2014, he has remained involved and serves as an Honorary Board member.
In describing his vision for the Endowment, Jim affirmed that the Foundation’s mission complements the purpose of the Endowment.
“The Foundation is vital for enriching and enhancing the educational experience of the students and that will certainly be the role of the Endowment as well.”
In addition, he noted that everyone touched by the New Trier experience, past and present, has something to contribute to preserving the school’s legacy of educational excellence, and the Endowment offers such an opportunity.
Jim and his wife Barbara enjoy a personal pride in knowing that four people close to their hearts are Trevians – daughter Julia ’78 and sons Jay ’75, David ’83 and Paul ’85 – and two grandsons who are members of the Class of 2017 and one a member of the Class of 2020.
